The Thirteenth Annual Summer Slam fishing tournament was held at the Pink Shell Beach Resort and Spa on Fort Myers Beach on September 23rd and 24th, 2011. This was the final qualifier in the Caloosa Tournament Series where all anglers that scored points in it or the Caloosa Catch and Release will be invited to fish in the Grand Championship November 4th -6th, 2011 at South Seas Island Resort on Captiva. Big congratulations to those anglers who have qualified to fish it!

Anglers that fished the Summer Slam caught lots of Redfish, however the challenge was catching slot Reds.  In total, twenty out of twenty-five teams scored points… a very impressive number! Weights ranged from a combined 3.6lbs of Redfish all the way up to a total combined 13lbs of Redfish.  First place went to a new team, Southern Land Care, with an impressive 6.8lb Redfish and 6.2 lb Redfish making 13 a very lucky number for these guys. Congratulations to Matthew Maloney, Bobby Spano and Stewart Widner; a great win in the Summer Slam. Second place was awarded to another new team; Team Panama Red. Anglers Zac and Larry Carpenter with just a tenth of a pound difference separating first and second place.  Their two Redfish weighed in at 7lbs and 5.9lbs making it a very close competition. Not far behind second place was Pink Shell Beach Resort and Spa’s team with Captain Bill Walker and anglers Ellis Etter, Bill Waichulis, Susan Blass and Billy Waichulis with a solid combined weight of 12.4lbs of Redfish.  The mystery fish division was won with a 3.5 pound Snapper by team Southern Instinct…great job guys!  The Red Salon and Spa Ladies Division winner was awarded to the top Lady Angler, Susan Blass from The Pink Shell Beach Resort and Spa team. Finally, it is always great to see the enthusiasm expressed in the young youth division when he or she earns this award! Jonah from Red Salon and Spa was the winner of this year’s division. He received a loaded tackle bag and will be visiting Fort Myers Marine to get his own rod and reel from Chuck Calkins.

Please remember if you scored points in either the Caloosa Catch and Release or the Summer Slam you will be invited to fish the Championship November 4th – 6th at South Seas Island Resort on Captiva.  You may fish in the Championship with a different team IF you scored points.
