The Caloosa Catch & Release Grand Championship

The 2011 Grand Championship wrapped up the final leg in the Caloosa Tournament Series November 4th and 5th at South Seas Island Resort on Captiva Island. Anglers that had previously qualified by scoring points in either the Caloosa Catch and Release or the Summer Slam earlier this year were invited to fish the Championship.  Around twenty teams came out and competed for the top award as the Caloosa Grand Champions.

The weather was as unpredictable as can be expected in November.  While a front moved in on Friday and the skies were overcast with some choppy waters on Saturday it did not stop any of the teams from giving it their all.  Boats began weighing fish in around noon and by 5:00 teams were lined up to weigh-in.   One team did not let the weather affect their strategy of running north which proved to be very beneficial; a huge congratulations to Team Tow Boat – Charlotte Harbour with anglers: Kyle Potts, Carmen Driscoll and Chris Magnano who pulled off a big win this year! They weighed two Redfish the first was an impressive 8.3lbs and the second 7.7lbs which also put them in first place for the Catch the Big Ones Redfish Bonanza as well as first for Carmen in the Red Salon and Spa Ladies Division with her impressive 6.2lb Redfish!

Second place in the Championship went to team Organized Chaos anglers: Jimmy Burnsed, Patrick Field, Clark Smith and Lamar Williams with a 7.6 and 7lb Redfish totaling 14.6 pounds of Reds.  Not far behind in third place was Press Printing with anglers: Carl Luetich and Dan Baggott they weighed a total of 14lbs of Redfish.  Chuck Calkins owner of Fort Myers Marine announced at Friday night’s Captains Meeting that he would put up $500 cash to the 7th place team which ended in a tie between teams JM Todd and Harris Dermatology with 9.1lbs of Redfish.  And the final place paid out for the Caloosa Grand Championship in 2011 was for 9th place which was also a tie between Bahama Breeze and Harry Dickey with 6.1lbs of Redfish!
